Campus Assaults Still Rising, Prevention is Simple

Brunswick, Maine – Monday, August 5, 2013 – Despite FBI statistics that show on campus assaults rising with enrollment, speaker and author Jim Bouchard says keeping yourself from becoming one of these statistics is simple.

Bouchard will be appearing at a very special event on Tuesday, August 15th at Northern Chi Martial Arts Center in Brunswick, Maine. “AWARE: Campus Edition” is a 90 minute workshop teaching prevention and intuitive self-defense tactics for college bound students.

“Most assaults on campus are preventable. Let’s focus on those,” says Bouchard, a self-defense expert with nearly 30 years of experience. “95% of all campus crime and 95% of all sexual assaults at college involve alcohol on the part of the victim, the attacker or both. Don’t get drunk and you’re far less likely to find yourself in trouble.”

The next controversial adage Bouchard presents is this, “Don’t ‘hook-up’ with people you don’t know. You greatly increase your chances of being sexually assaulted when you’re alone with someone you just met.”

This type of “tough love” advice is typical of Bouchard’s approach. In addition to being a professional martial arts instructor, Bouchard is a nationally recognized speaker and author of THINK Like a BLACK BELT. He appears regularly on radio and television sharing his philosophy of personal and professional excellence and tours the country presenting for corporate and conference audiences.

Bouchard acknowledges that telling college kids to not to drink or fully enjoy their sexual freedom is not always a popular stance. “I’m not preaching morality,” he adds, “it’s just the facts. If you want to be safe, don’t drink, or drink responsibly- and don’t let your sex drive put you in dangerous situations.”

You can register for the Brunswick AWARE event by calling Northern Chi Martial Arts Center at 207-751-4317 or at NorthernChi.com/Events.
