PORTLAND, Maine (JULY 18, 2013) – Broadreach Public Relations, a growing firm headquartered on Portland’s waterfront, has kicked off recruitment for its 2013 apprenticeship. The six-month program, which starts in September, was created to provide a recent college graduate in communications/marketing or public relations an insider’s view into the exciting and nuanced world of PR. The apprenticeship program is in addition to the firm’s 12-week internship program, positions for which are open three times per year.
This is the second year Broadreach has offered the apprenticeship. “Last year’s program was so successful, the team decided to make this a permanent part of our organization,” said Linda Varrell, President & Founder of Broadreach. “Mentoring and youth development are core to our culture. Even though we’re a small company, we find the time and carve out budgets to make sure we are giving back and creating opportunities for the next generation.”
Last year, Erin Falwell of Moultonborough, New Hampshire spent her Broadreach apprenticeship learning all aspects of PR and how the various disciplines are interrelated. The experience gave her new insights into how she wanted to shape her career. She now works as an Internet marketing coordinator at Springer’s Jewelers, a marketing coordinator at Fuseideas, and as a freelancer.
“This program teaches young professionals the nuts and bolts of PR and how to work with numerous types of clients, while building an amazing portfolio at the same time,” said Falwell. “Linda Varrell is one of the strongest business women I’ve met. She encouraged me to try different things, and helped me discover my strengths. I learned lessons in project management and business communication that only come with real world experience. Broadreach opened doors for me; the training I received there will have an everlasting impact on my career.”
