Saco & Biddeford Savings recognized for raising awareness around epilepsy
SACO, Maine (Nov. 7, 2013) – Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution recently won the 2013 Candlelight Award by the Epilepsy Foundation of New England for its support of the epilepsy community. Saco & Biddeford Savings will accept the award on Saturday Nov. 16 at the Third Annual Maine Candlelight Dinner.
“Saco & Biddeford Savings is not just a business doing its job, but a business that is dedicated to supporting its community,” said Kristine Binette, field service coordinator of the Epilepsy Foundation of New England’s Maine chapter. “Our foundation is steadily growing and it would not have been possible without Saco & Biddeford Savings. They were the first to believe in our mission and this night is to honor their commitment.”
One in 26 Mainers lives with epilepsy. The Epilepsy Foundation of New England works to educate the public about this neurological disorder. Since its establishment six years ago, it has raised awareness through its yearly walk, dance, conferences and free training sessions. Saco & Biddeford Savings sponsors and participates in all the events. Together, the Bank and The Epilepsy Foundation of New England seek to eradicate myths about epilepsy and to help people affected by the disorder lead normal lives.
“We strongly believe in the mission of the Epilepsy Foundation of New England and understand its vital role in educating the public about this disorder,” said Kevin Savage, president of Saco & Biddeford Savings. “We are honored by this recognition and are proud to continue to stand with the Foundation in the fight against epilepsy.”
The Candlelight Dinner at 6 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the Double Tree Hotel in Portland is black tie optional and features a silent auction, gourmet dinner and live band. This event is open to the public and tickets are available at: http://epilepsynewengland.org/2013-maine-candlelight-dinner/.
