Portland, Maine, (August 29, 2013) - My Place Teen Center (MPTC) is pleased to announce renowned comedian and Maine humorist Tim Sample will headline its 2013 Fund-A-Kid Gala, Tuesday, October 8, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in Portland.

The event also marks the center’s 15-year anniversary and will include gourmet treats by Blue Elephant Catering, music by Uke’n¹Smile and a robust silent auction.

“This year’s Fund-A-Kid Gala is going to be amazing,” said Donna Dwyer, MPTC’s executive director, “We’ll have Tim Sample, delicious food and great music while we raise funds and celebrate 15 years of saving kids’ lives and helping those very same kids build brighter, happier, hope-filled futures.”

MPTC’s Corporate Partner award will be presented to Unum and COO Kevin McCarthy will be accepting on the company’s behalf.  Surprise winners for Community Partner and Volunteer of the Year awards will be announced at the gala.

Tickets are available now for $50 each. Current event sponsors are:

The Frog & Turtle, A Gastro Pub, Westbrook
Acadia Insurance Companies, Westbrook
Disability RMS, Westbrook

Located in Westbrook, MPTC opened its doors in 1998 as a no-barrier after-school program that welcomed all teens, especially those most at-risk.

All services and programming are free to any young person who walks through the center¹s iconic red doors. By engaging area artisans, teachers, MPTC staff and tapping into local and corporate volunteers, MPTC¹s cost to provide each teen with meals and special programming is $960, far below the national average of $1,500.

Today, the center has expanded its reach outside of Westbrook and now serves teens throughout Southern Maine with a structured, supervised curriculum.  Daily programming includes service learning, mentoring, homework assistance, physical fitness, arts and crafts, cooking, nutrition, creative writing and photography, as well serving nightly, hot, complete dinners.
