Portland, MAINE, August 22, 2013 — The Avesta HomeOwnership Center has announced its Homebuyer Education Course schedule for fall/winter 2013. Courses are scheduled for the following dates:
- Sept. 3, 5, 10 and 12
- Oct. 21, 23, 28 and 30
- Nov. 5, 7, 12 and 14
- Dec. 2, 4, 9 and 11
All sessions take place from 6-8:30 p.m. at Avesta Housing’s headquarters at 307 Cumberland Avenue in Portland. Participants must attend all sessions to complete the course.
So far this year, the HomeOwnership Center has helped more than 120 people navigate the home-buying process through the Homebuyer Education Course. One participant said the course provided “information about what we didn’t know we needed to know, given in the best possible way.” Another participant said, “I now feel prepared, in sharp contrast to how I felt two weeks ago. I would recommend this to anybody and everybody.”
Taught by certified housing counselors and industry professionals, the 10-hour course covers every aspect of the home-buying process, including:
- Money management
- Shopping for a home
- Qualifying and obtaining a mortgage loan
- Lender’s view: Determining creditworthiness and affordability
- What to expect at closing
- Sustaining your gain: Life as a homeowner
The Avesta HomeOwnership Center is also holding two courses at Bonny Eagle High School in Standish on the following dates:
- Sept. 21 and 28, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
- Nov. 16 and 23, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
