Upcoming Events at USM tackle Maine’s new challenge: Managing an Aging Workforce
Leading expert on managing older employees will speak at USM Corporate Partners Breakfast. Immediately following is the day-long Conference hosted by MemoryWorks on the Economics of Aging in Maine.
PORTLAND, ME (November 8, 2013) – 29% of Maine’s population are baby boomers, topping the nation. This new reality brings new challenges: how do we manage our aging workforces? On Thursday, November 21 experts will gather at University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus to discuss this challenge and more.
At the USM Corporate Partners’ breakfast, which begins at 7 a.m., John Dorrer, a renowned expert and economist will present new insights, guidance and resources to address this challenge. Dorrer will explore the increase in the number of workers age 55+ in Maine’s labor market; he will offer strategies for those managing older workers who may want to stay in the workforce but in different capacities.

Immediately following the breakfast, MemoryWorks will be conducting a day-long workshop exploring the economics of aging in Maine. During this conference, sessions will delve into issues such as managing the challenging behaviors of dementia and the impact of eldercare on your workplace.
