XMaine Fraud Prevention Alliance Expands and Launches New Website in Preparation for Maine Seniors Day
AARP Maine and Maine Bankers Association join Alliance to help educate Maine families and seniors on ways to DASH Fraud

SACO, Maine (September 12, 2013) – The Maine Fraud Prevention Alliance (MFPA) recently welcomed two new Alliance members: AARP Maine and the Maine Bankers Association. Founded in July of 2012, the Alliance now boasts 12 members from Southern Maine and around the state, with more interested. The MFPA’s goal is to spread awareness of fraud in its many forms and to provide the public with a first line of defense.  Instances of fraud are growing at an alarming rate, and Alliance members are committed to stop it before it can occur.

The DASH Fraud program was launched as a self-defense kit providing four simple and easy to remember measures to prevent fraud at its onset, DASH:Delete unsolicited email and text; Ask for permits from door-to-door salespeople; Shred junk mail; and Hang-up unsolicited calls.

MFPA’s official website, www.dashfraud.org, is set to launch this month.  It will contain everything consumers need to know about fraud and how to avoid it. Website features will include stories of fraud, a DASH tool kitgovernment tips and laws, and more.

The website will launch in time for Maine Seniors Day on September 14thMaine Seniors Day is a day set aside by Maine lawmakers to celebrate the service and contributions of all of Maine’s senior citizens.

“We’ve seen an increase in fraud attempts in our own community,” explains Heather Clark, Marketing Officer at Saco & Biddeford Savings. “Forming this Alliance has gone above and beyond our expectations. And now that AARP Maine and the Maine Bankers Association have joined, we’ll be able to increase our efforts in getting the information about fraud prevention to all Mainers.  .”

“Seniors are particularly targeted when it comes to fraud,” noted Jane Margesson, Communications Director of AARP Maine. “We are proud to be part of the solution to prevent fraud, and encourage everyone to take a look at the DASH Fraud Toolkit and/or attend a presentation in their community.”

”Almost 15% of the population is a victim of fraud each year. Saco & Biddeford Savings saw the need and spearheaded this Alliance. We are pleased to be on board,” said Christopher Pinkham, President of Maine Bankers.

The MFPA has facilitated a number of free fraud prevention presentations for community groups and organizations. If you wish to request a presentation, want fraud prevention materials or want to learn more about the program, please contact Heather Clark at 207-602-7332 or visit the website at www.dashfraud.org.
