Boston, MA (7/1/2013) Verrill Dana is proud to announce that Tara Shuman has been honored as the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation Project’s (PAIR) 2013 Pro Bono Asylum Attorney of the Year for her work representing a Ugandan asylum seeker who had suffered persecution in Uganda due to her political activity. Tara worked on this pro bono matter for more than two years, including for several months during her own cancer treatment. She was presented with the award at the PAIR Gala on June 19, at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston.
Tara’s practice at Verrill Dana is focused on general health law, but she is dedicated to pro bono work and counsels individual clients on immigration issues, including both affirmative and defensive political asylum cases, as well as education and income support issues. She earned her law degree cum laude from Suffolk University Law School and an undergraduate degree summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Bowdoin College.
